At the present time, the demand for our telescopes greatly exceeds our production capacity. As a result, we have instituted notification lists for people who would like to order one of these scopes when they are available. If you would like to order one of our refractors or Mak-Cas telescopes, please be sure that you sign up on our Online Notification form. Only those on the list will have an opportunity to order one. Unfortunately, the lists are quite long and each list goes back several years (as of August 2007, all of the telescope lists go back to 1999) The 140mm f7.5 StarFire EDF list is originally based on the 130 f8.3 list, which included people who had signed up from March to August 2000 (the list was discontinued in Aug 2000). It was reinstated as the 140 StarFire list in late April 2007. Please understand that it is more important to us that we produce a few excellent instruments than a lot of mediocre ones. If you require a telescope in the near future, you may wish to check the listings for a previously owned Astro-Physics telescope on Astromart or consider another model.Telescope Production Schedules and New Orders
Periodically, we plan our telescope production schedule for the following months. During the planning process, we decide how many of each instrument we will produce. After our telescope production schedules have been determined (and probably after production has already started), we will contact people on our notification lists, as well as our dealers. Since these lists are quite long and greatly exceed the number of scopes that we are likely to produce, we typically follow this procedure. Check the Notification Update periodically for information regarding production runs that we may have opened.
In late 2004, we expanded our production facilities and since then have added CNC lathes, mills, and a few highly skilled machinists and assembly personnel. As a result, we are producing a greater number of 900GTO and 1200GTO mounts yearly and have added the Mach1GTO to our product line. The waiting times for these mounts has improved significantly. Please check the Notification Update and price list pages of our website for current status on these mounts.Mount Production Schedule and New Orders
Mount production runs open up at various times during the year. In an effort to project realistic estimated delivery dates, we typically wait until production is well underway before accepting orders. When we are ready, we will offer the people on our notification list (and our dealers, of course) the first opportunity to order the mounts. If you are interested, it is important that you sign up. We follow the same notification procedure as we do for telescopes. Check the notification update periodically for information regarding production runs that we may have opened. When we come to the end of our notification list for a particular item, we will accept orders from people who have not signed up on the list until the production run is full.
Most of our accessories are in stock for immediate shipment. Please refer to the price list to review the current status of specific items. We update the price list as soon as the status of an item changes. Shipping schedule information is available in the Order Info section of our site.
What is a "Notification List"?
As long-time customers know, Astro-Physics telescopes and mounts have been in high demand for many years. We take a considerable amount of time with each instrument to be sure that it performs exceptionally well and we have a reputation for excellent service and support. Over the years, our customers have been our best salespeople. As a result, those interested in high-quality images or views often wait several years for the scope of their dreams. The precision and craftsmanship of our mounts is also well renowned.
Many years ago, we started our notification list so that people who were interested in a particular instrument could sign up. Each time we produce a telescope or mount, we contact the people on these lists, offering them an opportunity to order. There is no obligation to purchase the instrument if you are on the list, and you do not have to pay a deposit. However, please remember that signing up on the notification list does not constitute an order. It is merely a list that indicates your interest.
We do not accept actual orders for our products until the production has been started for that particular instrument. In recent years, we have typically waited until the production run is actually in progress before we accept orders. By doing this, we can more closely estimate the delivery of the telescope or mount, which will allow you to better plan your observatory or other equipment purchases.
If you are interested in our mounts or telescopes, please use our Online Product Notification Request form. Include your name, address, day and evening phone numbers, and e-mail address. Select the scope or mount that interests you. We will notify you when that item is available for you to order. We recommend using our online form rather than calling our office since all online requests will be confirmed by e-mail. We will also receive a duplicate e-mail that we keep for our reference and the information is directly downloaded into our database. Please keep us updated by phone or e-mail if your contact information changes. We will update our database with this information.
Please understand that we cannot tell you your position on the notification list and predict the likelihood of whether you will be able to order a scope or mount in the next production run. There are several reasons for this: we do not know how many instruments of each type will be made in the next production schedule; and we do not know how many people will actually order (circumstances change for people on the list). Also, we donít want to encourage people to "sell" their positions on the list.
In general, the later you called to be placed on the notification list, the less are your chances to place an order for the next production run. If you donít make it at that time, you will have a better chance the next time since your name will be in a higher position on the list.
When we open a new production run, pertinent information will be posted on Notification Update. Check this link periodically.
Ordering Telescopes and Mounts Together
The production runs for telescopes and mounts are planned separately and will be offered independently of one another. There is no way we can guarantee that if you order a mount, you will be offered an Astro-Physics refractor in the next production run. Also, if you order a refractor when it is offered, you may not be able to order a mount at the same time. Each telescope (or mount) order will be delivered when it is completed, regardless of whether the corresponding mount (or refractor) is ready as well. We apologize for this policy, however we can see no better way to deal with our difficult backorder situation.
However, if you do have both items on order, we will do our best to work with you to coordinate delivery, if possible. For instance, say your telescope is ready, but your mount is scheduled for delivery the next month. If your telescope order is at the beginning of the production run, we can move your order to a later delivery position (it usually takes a couple of months to complete all orders in a scope run). Someone else would simply get their scope a little earlier. The same would be true if your mount is ready first.
We have decided that the only fair way to offer the mounts and refractors is by the date that each person expressed interest in a particular item on our notification list. Your position on one list does not correlate with your position on another.
